Kelurahan Cempaka Putih Timur Sulap Sampah Organik Jadi Pupuk Kompos, Dijual Rp10 Ribu per Kilogram

PrakarsaWarga.Com – The Cempaka Putih Timur sub-district in Central Jakarta continues to strengthen its environmentally friendly waste management efforts by processing organic waste into economically valuable compost. This program not only helps reduce waste volume but also creates income opportunities through the sale of processed products to the community.

For approximately three months, the sub-district government has operated a composting facility to process leaf litter collected daily by Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management (PPSU) officers. Instead of directly disposing of the waste in the final disposal site (TPA), the waste is processed into high-quality compost.

The Head of Cempaka Putih Timur, Hening Nugrahani, explained that all leaf waste is first shredded so that the decomposition process takes place more quickly and produces compost that is ready for use.

According to him, the composting process takes about three months to produce mature fertilizer. Some of the produce is used for greening purposes in the sub-district, such as parks and green open spaces (RTH), while the remainder is marketed to the public at Rp 10,000 per kilogram.

In addition to the main composting facility, the Cempaka Putih Timur sub-district also provides three neighborhood-scale composting sites spread across several neighborhood units (RW). This step is taken to facilitate residents in supporting organic waste management at the source.

The program has proven to have a positive impact on reducing waste accumulation. Each day, the Cempaka Putih Timur sub-district manages to reduce approximately nine cubic meters of leaf litter, which previously had the potential to increase the burden on the landfill.

Through this innovation, the Cempaka Putih Timur sub-district demonstrates that organic waste can be transformed into useful and marketable products. This program is expected to serve as an example for other regions in creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment through circular economy-based waste management.
